Interview with Roseville OT Tyler Rey
When we last caught up with Roseville High School offensive
tackle Tyler Rey, he was about to enter his senior season fresh off the summer football
camp circuit. With several teams taking interest in his services at the next
level at that time, Elite Football Network did a follow up interview to see how
the 2014 season has been going for him and see how recruiting has started off
for the powerful 6’3”, 300 pound, tackle.
how are the Tigers doing this season?
“We just got our second win of the season (27-25 over
Antelope). A few of our games have come down to the end of the game, with one
little thing, one little mistake making us lose the game. We got some bad news;
our starting quarterback Adam Besana tore his ACL. Hopefully we’ll be able to
pull through without him.”
How have you played this season?
“I’ve played well until I dislocated a bone in my foot. I
sat out the last game (Cosumnes Oaks) but played through the injury against Del
Campo (a 20-17 loss). An ex-NFL trainer worked on me. He popped the bone back
into place on my foot the other day. I’m at about 75 percent now but I expect
to be around 80 percent by Friday and in the game this week (at Bella Vista; Fair Oaks).
When we last spoke Colorado,
Idaho, and Wyoming were all showing interest. Have any
new schools come forward showing interest or with scholarship offers?
“St. Olaf in Minnesota been very persistent. They would like
for me to go out for a visit but I don’t have time to go on a visit right now. Mount Joseph’s
has offered me a 60 percent scholarship. Humboldt has asked for a mid-season
highlight reel. Sacramento State, Puget Sound, and Western
New Mexico have been sending letters. A couple of others have
asked for more game film as well.”
Rey is the prime example of an overlooked Division-I
prospect lingering at the high school level. With his solid frame, a bench
press of 315 pounds, a squat max of 450 pounds, quick feet, great balance, and
good bend at the hips, one would think an offer from a FBS program is around
