Oregon Ducks (9-3) vs. TCU Horned Frogs (10-2)

Bowl Game: Alamo Bowl
Kickoff Time: January 2, 6:45 PM
Location: Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas

Two of the nation’s best offenses will be on display in the Valero Alamo Bowl as Oregon and TCU take the field. Both teams had College Football Playoff aspirations at the start of the season, but both suffered injuries to key offensive players, which served to derail their hopes. The Horned Frogs will be without starting quarterback Trevone Boykin, as he was suspended along with wide receiver Preston Miller for violating team rules, head coach Gary Patterson announced this week.

Players to watch
  • Oregon running back Royce Freeman ranks fourth in the FBS with 1,706 rushing yards, and has a higher yards per carry average (6.6) than Derrick Henry, Christian McCaffrey and Leonard Fournette, the three players ahead of him.
  • With Boykin and his 4,187 yards of total offense and 40 touchdowns sidelined for this game, the spotlight will shine instead on sophomore Zach Allen, who will start for TCU under center. Allen did not attempt a pass this season.

  • TCU averages 564.3 total offensive yards per game, ranking third in the FBS, while Oregon ranks fourth averaging 548.2.
  • The teams have met twice, a home-and-home series played in Fort Worth in 1977 and Eugene in 1978, with the road team winning each time.
  • Oregon is playing in the Alamo Bowl for the second time in three seasons, having won the 2013 game over Texas.
  • Oregon has won six consecutive games, with quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. throwing 21 touchdowns in that span.
  • The Horned Frogs are 14-15-1 all-time in bowl games, while Oregon is 12-16.
