Both No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 1 Clemson will make their College Football Playoff debuts in the Capital One Orange Bowl. The Sooners rebounded from an early-season loss against rival Texas, surging to the finish to earn the playoff’s fourth seed, while Clemson comes in as the only undefeated team in the FBS thanks largely to the play of Heisman Trophy finalist quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Players to watch

  • Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield has thrown for 3,389 yards and 35 touchdowns against only five interceptions this season.
  • Watson finished third in the Heisman voting after compiling 4,399 yards of total offense and 41 touchdowns.

  • The Tigers allowed opponents to complete only 46.1 percent of their passes, ranking first in the FBS in that category.
  • Oklahoma ranks third in the FBS in scoring offense, averaging 45.8 points per game, and leads the nation on scoring margin (plus-25).
  • The Sooners were plus-10 in turnover margin this season, while Clemson was minus-2.
