It was upset weekend at all levels on Saturday, with #20 Northern Iowa knocking off #1 ranked North Dakota State in front of a sellout crowd in the UNI-Dome. The Panthers broke the Bison’s 33-game win streak, the longest in FCS history, winning 23-3.

The Panthers beat another Top 10 team last week with a 41-24 win against Illinois State. The Panthers dismantled the Bison offense, allowing only 42 rushing yards and 175 total yards for the game. Jake Farley led the defense with 9 tackles and Xavier Williams had 7 tackles and a sack.

David Johnson, a 6’1 229-pound senior running back, had a great game for the Panthers, rushing for 141 yards on 28 carries. Quarterback Brion Carter completed 7-of-19 passes for 92 yards and had 51 rushing yards and 1 touchdown.

Northern Iowa also got 3 field goals from kicker Michael Schmadeke. He connected on field goals from 43, 36 and 42 yards respectively.

Carlton Littlejohn led North Dakota State’s defense with 11 tackles. Kyle Emanuel had seven tackles with one sack and Mike Hardie had three tackles for loss.

Northern Iowa will play on the road next week in Carbondale (IL) against Southern Illinois and North Dakota State plays at Missouri State.
