The University of Auburn Athletic Office announced cornerback Kalvaraz Bessent is no longer apart of the Tigers football team.

Bessent was a prized cornerback recruit out of Camden County High School as part of the 2014 recruiting class. Recruiting services had him listed as big as 6’1”, 188 pounds, but Auburn listed the former Under Armor All-American at 5’11”, 165 pounds. Regardless of his size he was a consensus Top 12 cornerback out of high school and expected to be a cornerstone defender for the Tigers for years to come.

Shortly after signing with Auburn Bessent was arrested in Florida when the car he was traveling in was pulled over for speeding. The arresting officer found 340 grams of marijuana in the car along with a loaded hand gun. Charges against Bessent were eventually dropped allowing the Kingsland, Georgia native to matriculate onto the Auburn campus without incident.

The athletic department has not given reason for Bessent’s departure. Bessent took to Twitter stating, “Still love the AU Family” and “Set back for a major comeback!!!”

One report indicated that Bessent wanted to play for a school closer to home. Both Georgia and Georgia Tech were among the dozen or so schools to offer the cover corner.

Bessent redshirted in 2014 while on The Plains.
