The stage was set Friday night with Toledo Central Catholic, the defending Division 3 State Champions, squaring off against Cleveland Benedictine, the reigning Division 4 State Champions, in the Ohio Division 3 Regional Finals. The game featured two heavy weights going head to head, and definitely lived up to the hype. Toledo Central Catholic knocked off Benedictine 31-30 in double overtime.
Michael Warren, a 5'11 200-pound junior, was once again Central's workhorse in the victory. Warren carried the ball 51 times for 151 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Benedictine did keep him in check for most of the game, but Warren broke loose in the first half with a 34-yard touchdown run and scored the Irish's last touchdown in double overtime. He has made big plays all season and his team is one game away from the big dance.
This season, Warren has racked up 2,252 rushing yards on 321 carries and has scored 27 touchdowns.
#2 Toledo Central Catholic will play #3 Trotwood-Madison Friday night at Sidney Memorial Stadium in the Division 3 State Semifinals.
