Garrett Johnson from the Kentucky Wildcats was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for his performance this past weekend against Florida.

Johnson, a 5’11 176-pound wide receiver, caught 6 passes for 154 yards and scored 2 touchdowns in a 3 overtime loss to the Florida Gators. The 154 receiving yards is a new Kentucky school record for a freshman.

Johnson caught his first touchdown early in the 3rd quarter on a 60-yard pass play from quarterback Patrick Towles. This play gave Kentucky their first lead of the game with 5:32 left in the quarter. On Kentucky’s next offensive possession, Johnson caught a 33-yard touchdown pass to put them back up 17-13.

Johnson is from West Orange High School in Florida and was a 1st Team All-State performer last year as a senior. He chose the Wildcats over the Gators during the recruiting process.
